Can a parasol stay outside all year round?

Parasols come in a wide range of sizes, and if you have chosen one of the large models, it can quickly become a challenge to move it around. Perhaps you find yourself in the dilemma year after year – what should I do with the parasol when the season is over? And here the easy solution is just to think short-term and leave the parasol outdoors. But can you do that?

Here it is important that you check the description of your parasol, where it will often state whether it can withstand being stored outdoors or not. Regardless, we will always recommend a parasol cover, which protects the screen well during the winter period.

Make sure the parasol is dry

Many will still need to pack away the garden furniture, and here the parasol can just as well be included in the project – it is indeed the best for maintenance! It can be stored in the shed, garage, or house, depending on where you have space.

The most important thing when you need to store your parasol is that the sunshade is completely dry before you pack it away. You can advantageously open it up on a sunny autumn day to ensure that the screen is completely dry. When you fold it up, it is a good idea to store it in a bag where it will be best protected. However, make sure to keep the bag slightly open so that air can circulate.

It is easy to find the parasol again

Perhaps you bought your garden furniture with the thought that they should be outdoors all year round. If that is the case, it may sound quite troublesome that you have to pack your parasol away.

And if you have spent a good amount of money on the perfect parasol, we recommend that you play it safe when it comes to taking care of it. The weather in Denmark is unpredictable, and therefore it is also a gamble when you leave the parasol on the terrace outside of the season. When you make sure to pack it up and store it away, you won’t have to worry about the condition of the parasol when you bring it out again.

Good maintenance of your parasol

Good maintenance of your parasol can ensure a longer lifespan. We have gathered 5 good tips for you who want to take good care of your parasol:

  1. Make sure the parasol is dry before you fold it down

It is not unrealistic that you might be caught by a shower in the Danish summer weather. In that case, many will probably seek indoors and in that connection fold the parasol down. But if the parasol has become wet, it is actually better to leave it up and wait until it is dry again.

  • Cover the parasol when it is not in use

You can purchase a cover for most parasols that you can quickly and easily use to cover your parasol when it is not in use.

  • Remove the parasol if there are strong gusts of wind

Store it in the shed or garage to avoid the wind knocking it over.

  • Remember to clean the parasol from time to time

Wash the sunshade and the moving parts where sand and other dirt can easily settle. Often, you can be instructed on how to wash your parasol when you buy it in the store.

  • Make sure to impregnate the sunshade

Most parasols will need a wash every now and then, and following that, it is always a good idea to impregnate the fabric afterwards.
